3-Layer Coextrusion Blown Film Machine
As core equipment for plastic film production, 3-layer coextrusion blown film machines are widely used in food packaging, agricultural mulch film, industrial packaging and other fields. Compared with conventional single-layer extrusion or separate multi-layer lamination processes, they deliver prominent energy-saving benefits, meeting the green transformation and Dual Carbon targets of manufacturing. Their key energy-saving strengths are reflected in five aspects:
First, integrated process cuts basic energy consumption. Traditional multi-layer film production requires multiple single-layer extruders and subsequent lamination, involving large footprint and numerous auxiliary systems with standby power loss in heating and driving units. Equipped with an integrated die head and three plasticizing sections, the 3-layer coextrusion machine completes melting and composite forming of different materials (barrier inner layer, structural middle layer, functional outer layer) in one continuous process. It eliminates energy consumption from secondary lamination; one unit replaces several single-layer extruders, achieving over 25% reduction in overall auxiliary energy use.
Second, advanced heating improves thermal efficiency. Barrel heating accounts for most power consumption in film processing. Conventional resistance heating only reaches 40%–60% efficiency with massive surface heat loss. Most 3-layer coextrusion machines adopt electromagnetic induction heating, which heats the barrel directly via alternating magnetic fields and raises thermal efficiency above 95%. Nearly all heat contributes to material melting, saving 30%–40% energy in the heating section alone. Faster thermal response also curbs idle power waste.
Third, optimized power matching minimizes ineffective energy loss. Traditional extruders adopt asynchronous motors that run at rated power regardless of load during haul-off and winding, leading to substantial wasted energy under light loads. Servo drive systems fitted on 3-layer coextrusion equipment dynamically adjust power based on film tension, line speed and material properties. They save 20%–35% energy in hauling and winding compared with asynchronous motors, especially for small-batch variable production.
Fourth, stable processing reduces material and energy waste. Thanks to precision die runner design and closed-loop melt pressure control, thickness deviation is controlled within ±5%, much better than over ±10% for traditional technology. The reject rate drops by 10%–15%, avoiding repeated heating energy for rework. In addition, the three-layer structure allows recycled materials (such as recycled PE for inner and middle layers), lowering virgin resin consumption and the indirect energy used for raw material production.
Fifth, waste heat recovery enables energy recycling. Special devices recover residual heat from barrels and die heads to preheat raw materials, cutting electricity consumption for material drying by 15%–20% and lifting overall energy utilization.
In summary, multi-dimensional energy-saving designs of 3-layer coextrusion blown film machines reduce direct production energy as well as material waste and indirect energy consumption. Serving as key green manufacturing equipment in plastics processing, they help the industry lower costs, boost productivity and pursue low-carbon development.
